The delight of the color blue.

The delight of the color blue.

As content writers, we rarely enjoy the opportunity to make use of colors. In the movie, Mask, starring Cher, Eric Stoltz, Laura Dern, and Sam Elliot, the main character Rocky, describes colors to a blind Diana using common items.  Blue is freezing cold; green is vegetable, and red is a hot stone. Google the clip, it is amazing.

We write about colors, but we do not really ‘use them as writers.’  Yet, as website and content development professionals, we can bask in the glory of color.

As website designers, we select a specific color for the user to see when the website loads. When we write content, we communicate using color for the user to feel what we need them to experience. Color is extremely powerful. There are hundreds if not thousands of articles written about the use of color. We are often asked about color when we create logos for our clients. Color sets the mood and tone for so many things.

Welcome PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue.

Pantone is the standard for color used by marketing professionals.

“In 1963, Pantone revolutionized the printing industry with the colorful PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM®, an innovative tool allowing for the faithful selection, articulation, and reproduction of consistent, accurate color anywhere in the world. The tool organizes color standards through a proprietary numbering system and chip format, which have since become iconic to the Pantone brand.”

In 2019, the Color of the Year was Living Coral. Welcome to 2020 and the Color of the Year is Classic Blue. Pantone describes Classic Blue as:

“Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”

Utilizing Classic Blue as a part of your website or marketing materials.

When the announcement was made my mind was bursting with images and thoughts of things that are Classic Blue. See if you get these images as well.

  • I immediately pictured a pair of blue rubber toed Keds sneakers that I bought for my 3-year old son Jack so many years ago.
  • How about a crystal clear, deep blue sky at the end of a day at the lake?
  • Classic Blue is aligned with power, trust, classic American images, and the reference to Big Blue IBM.
  • This color in décor can instill a sense of peace and calmness maybe at a spa or yoga studio. When used on a website, it is easy on the eyes and is welcoming and non-threatening.

In your day to day activities, make notice of colors in stores, on food packages, clothing options and the marketing materials you receive. Think about using Classic Blue in your own business materials.

Not sure about Classic Blue?

According to the folks at Pantone, there are over “10,000 color standards across multiple materials including printing, textiles, plastics, pigments, and coatings.”

We are 100% confident we can find a color match for you. We love rolling up our sleeves with clients to refresh a logo, refurbish a website, or describe a product or service using ‘color.’  It is what we do.
