31 Oct Happy Halloween!
Today is Halloween and the traditions are celebrated in many countries and in many ways. Folklore speaks of Halloween as the evening before the Christian holy day of All Hallows’ Day traditionally known as All Saints’ Day on November 1st. In Mexico and other Latin American countries, Día de los Muertos is the Day of the Dead and honors deceased loved ones. Some believe the dead return on this eve and roam the earth.
Halloween is second only to Christmas as the highest grossing holiday. Households spend millions on pet costumes, delicious candy treats, and decorations for both inside and outside the home. Consumers are inundated with content from retailers and manufacturers.
Wait. Did we just say content? Yes. Content.
The content of commercials, printed ads, and even the wording on packaging is meant to attract the consumer and incent them to buy. Content comes in all forms so don’t be fooled. The colors of the candy packaging and the font of the name of the candy has a purpose.
And it works.
We can talk about this more later. It is late afternoon in New York and the trick or treaters will be here soon. Just take a moment to heed to the candy you are giving out. Notice the packaging, the colors, and the content of the label. It’s there.
Pretend to be scared at the ghoulish faces that appear at your door and smile at the tiny princess or pumpkin as they yell “Trick or Treat!”
